"i've been wearing pink and white acrylic nails for about a year now, with no complaints. However, I'm very aware of the damage they cause, and that they do look pretty fake, even though mine are almost as thin as natural nails. I'm interested in trying silk wraps with white tips because i know silk wraps are much better for your nails, but can't find ANY pictures online of what a finished set of silk wraps look like, much less silk wraps with white tips. i'd really like to see a set before i make the plunge and get them done on my own nails. does anyone have any links?

"They look pretty much like acrylics, only you can sort of see the weave of the fabric. The very thin silk is glued on over the nails with some kind of glue. The make your own nails stronger, but aren't as strong as acrylics. They only person I've known that had them done, they looked funny to me, kind of ... rough looking, and they yellowed. She had to have several of them repaired within a week. Not sure if that is typical or not.You can go to your Yahoo or MSN home page, and under images, "type in silk nail wraps". I found one about nail wraps but it didn't show a good picture, just the material used, and a description of the process: www.nailsbydesign.homest.../Wraps.html

Fake nails are so freakin expensive to upkeep and they just LOOK fake. Why not get them taken off and start getting manicures? way cheaper and your nails are your own!

"Calikitten, I've used acrylics periodically, but they are expensive to upkeep, and you need to take them off and let your nails grow out periodically. My thumbnails grow terribly wavy and look gross, so I sometimes get acrylic overlaid on them and keep them medium length. I recently had all my nails overlaid with acrylic, because they had grown fairly long on their own for a change (& I had a gift certificate). I just get them to keep them to a medium length, oval tips instead of squared, and an American manicure and they look much more natural. If you want to take your acrylics off for awhile and let your nails "breath", but have trouble with them being weak or splitting, I found a clear nail polish I love, called Nailguard 3 in 1 for growth, hardener, and ridge filler. It lasts about a week (if you don't do a lot of dishes). It was from the drug store, next to the Sally Hanson's products.

"thanks for the tip, but i'm not looking to keep my nails bare. (i have the wavy nails too, but it's all ten of them!) i don't find it necessary to let your nails grow out without anything on them, and the money is very worth it to me. people find different things important and worth it to them. i actually cheat a little and don't get fills every two weeks, i wait 4 weeks or so and get a pink and white fill without just a pink fill in between. i was interested in silk wraps because they are better for your nails than acrylic, and that's the only reason. i was actually hoping to hear that they would look similar to the acrylics. i am interested in the american manicure though. i came across it while researching silk wraps. can an american manicure be done with silk wraps? and do you ask for white tips still, or do they have something between white and the clear, "natural" tips? i would still do a soft square shape, i just prefer it to the oval shape on my hands. thanks for the help.
