I'll watch movies and these brunettes will have perfectly white underarms. How do you do it? I get better results with my boyfriend's razor, but it's still not perfect. Anyone else have this problem or am I a freak of nature? My stupid brother teased me once about having a five o'clock shadow there. I can't help it! Argh!

"I have the same problem, and I hate it! I find that I don't have as much five o'clock shadow if I use a razor that has three or four blades. Also, I shave every day under there. I have been thinking about professional waxing, as it is supposed to pull out the hairs by the roots, and lasts much longer. Good luck!

"I'm also a brunette who used to have that problem. The only thing that solved it for me was waxing. It pulls the hairs out and you don't see those little dark spots all over. It hurts really bad the first few times.. but after a while it doesn't really bother you anymore. I would recommend having it professionally done because they do a good job and it's fast and easy. You can do it yourself.. but if you aren't used to it yet, you will find it's hard to make yourself pull the wax strip off, and also.. it's harder to do a good job. After you do this a couple years, you will find that the hair doesn't grow back quite as fast, and when it does, it isn't as thick.. as if some of the hairs have stopped growing. My other advise would be to get laser hair removal.. but that's expensive.. I wish I could afford it.

"Yes, but how long does it have to be to wax it? Don't you have to grow it out a little? Yick! Hehe!

I heard that exfoliating helps. I exfoliate my armpits before I shave. I just use St ives apricot scrub and that works just fine. Thr shadow is from shaving. Or try waxing.

"If you don't want to wax or try laser hair removal, you might also try a shave minimizing shave gel. I use one by Aveeno, that helps slow the growth and thins the hairs. Its not a dramatic difference, but a slight one, and it takes weeks before you notice much improvement. The exfoliating sounds promising.I recently got an e-mail about the many uses for peroxide. One of them is gradual hair "bleaching". You might try rubbing a little peroxide on your pits daily to gradually lighten the hair/stubble. It's pretty gentle and disinfects, but could possibly be drying.

"LOL, I can see me scratching my armpits nonstop 'cause they're dry and itchy from peroxide but I just might try that!

"You can get hair bleach especially for your underarms, bikini line. I used to use it when I would go on long scuba vacations. That way I would just apply the bleach in between waxing. It works great.

"I, too, am a brunette & German! So, I understand your hair dilemma! I started waxing my underarms about two years ago (just during the summer). It doesn't feel good, but it looks great and then I don't have to shave everyday! I let my hair grow for about 3 weeks-it's tough, but the lady who does my waxing prefers it. Sometimes you may have to go twice, as the hair under your arms grows in different directions, but I usually just go once. My wax usually lasts 4-5 weeks, and I may have to shave a few hairs once in awhile, but not often. Good luck!

"For single days/events you particularly care about, you could try nair first and then shaving. That's what I do for my bikini line instead of waxing when I want to avoid any stubble appearance or feel. Of course it will begin growing back just like shaving, but I find it buys me some extra time. You might also want to see if using lotion/soap and shaving without (much) water helps. When you do it in the shower/bath and you have been wet, the skin is slightly absorbent and effectively swells a little bit, so you don't get as close of a shave.

My daughters doctor told me that a shadow under the armpits is indicative of insulin-resistance. I took her in for testing and sure enough - poor kid has insulin-resistance. It is a precursor to diabetes so you might want to get checked.

"I also have dark hair and very fair skin. Laser hair removal is the only thing that has worked for me. It's not cheap but within a year I hardly have to shave my armpits and I don't get any redness, bumps, or ingrown hair. The nice thing was that you don't have to really let the hair grow when you have it done you have to shave but each time it gets less and less. It's so effective that I want to get my bikini line and legs done as well if I can get the money saved up.

"Ok, here's the secret for the under pit dark shadow, also if you ladies shave down your crotch or your bikini line. Vaseline is the solution, since some parts of our bodies we have very dry skin, and never think about moisturizing those areas, the color of the skin turns dark and dry. Try putting Vaseline after ever shower, and you will see results sooner than you think. Also works for the elbows as well. GOOD LUCK! Hope it works!!!

"Okay, a little OT, but...How much does waxing run in a salon? I'm not talking facial. Does anyone know of the average price to do a full leg wax, brazillian bikini, and armpits in SoCal? Or anywhere for that matter? I want to do this for the summer, but I'm a little embarrassed to call up salons for price quotes... Would I have to pay an arm and a leg? I could only afford around 150-200.
Lily299
"You should be fine, a lot of salons have their prices online. I got a few by just doing an internet search for "salon waxing california" but since I haven't personally tried any of the ones i found, I didn't include them here. Don't be embarrassed to call and ask though, that's what they're there for ( if you're embarrassed to just call the salon how on earth are you going to survive the indignity of getting a brazilian!!

The shadows one develops is definitely due to your body not producing enough insulin (not saying your a diabetic) however your Metabolism is OFF. My doctor started me on synthroid and just after 2 months... I have no more shadow. My hair is growing FAST and my skin looks healthier ( I never thought it was bad until I see the difference now) oh and my nails have been growing a lot. I have always been an active person and never really thought I had bad skin/nails etc... but when my friend told me of her shadow problem and then her getting checked out... I thought I have health insurance .. let me check myself out and wala... a problem was identified and I am now glowing... giggle. PS. Peroxide works as a lightening agent even on arm hair . I ALSO brush it across my upper and lower teeth after brushing. I read this in one of the Marie Clair Mag's and it really works. I no longer think I need to get my teeth whitened. It works ! Give it two weeks and people will ask if you whitened your teeth... ( one cotton swab per swipe of upper and lower !) No rising and don't worry.. no bad taste. mY DENTIST says he does it once every day also .. its already an agent in most toothpastes nowadays.

I have that problem with my legs and underarms. I use the green scrubby thing you wash pots and pans with and scrub my underarms and legs with Bath and Body Works Creamy Body Wash...Then I use the Fusion razor for men that has 5 blades and vibrates when I shave. It works really well. As for the laser procedure...I paid $500 to get my upper lip and chin done and it was well worth the money...

I have thick hair as well... I just got married and right before my wedding I had been growing out my underarm hair as well as my leg hair.. (I did this for about 3 weeks) and I went for a waxing and I was compeltely blwon away.. I am usually shaving everyday but I didn't have to shave for a good 2 weeks and when the hair did grow back it was very thin... now I wax often and it will hurt at first but you get use to it... it is well worth the trip to the salon...
