"I know every girl wants to look her best, but doesn't it seem like we are spending too much time and energy putting on a face for other people to see. I used to not go in public, but now I am dating a great guy met through an online dating site. Does makeup really matter?

"to answer the original question, yes i think beauty products (as a general rule) are overpriced.i also think that people (as a general rule) expect most women to wear makeup. i buy pricey products - clinique, lancome, MAC, and estee lauder are in my makeup bag, but i have found the products that work for me in terms of length of wear, color/shade, product quality and smoothness, etc. you have to pay the premium if you want premium products.

"Yes, make up matters. What matters to others is that you look "polished" and pulled together. They will not notice or care what products you use, or how much you paid for them, only your over-all "look".What matters to you is how the products make you feel about yourself. Some people have simple needs and preferences and are happy with less expensive products. For those of us with special needs or preferences, we often have to pay more for a quality product, because it's worth it to us. (And yes, beauty products are way over priced, often charging more for a name brand, that may or may not be of superior quality,)I spend more on quality skin care and foundation. If my skin looks and feels good and I start with a good base, then ANY product I put on it looks and lasts better. I don't spend a lot on "color items" like eye, lip, and cheek colors. My main concern there is that the color looks natural and the eye shadow doesn't crease. For everyday, I'm more concerned about just "kicking it up a notch". Tinted moisturizer, tinted chap stick, and a touch of blusher is about all I do. For special occasions I go all out so I don't look washed out in photos. For the in-between occasions, I use more products, but sparingly so it looks natural. I've found that the more make up I apply, the more it accentuates my age by covering up the "natural glow". So I can either look good but older, or plain and younger, always a tough choice.
