Appropriate Fitting Jeans??? > - Beauty and Fashion >
Beautyflow.com brigette1982"This could be a really stupid question, but how should your jeans fit? I'm 25 and a size 0 on women's size charts, and I've really loved the low-rise, flare jeans, but today I was made to feel self-conscious when at lunch with a co-worker some guys commented (nicely) to eachother about my butt. My co-worker overheard and proceeded to tell me. I'm sort-of shy about that stuff, so I'm sure my face got a little red and she said, "Time to buy some looser fitting jeans, hey?" Am I too old to wear my current style of jeans? I don't seek out the skin tight type jeans, I just prefer the low-rise, flare leg and I buy the size based on my measurements. I feel so ridiculous having to ask this, but I really don't want to walk around looking like I barely fit in my pants...any advice?

"Personally I think they should ideally fit almost snug, not skin tight, not loose and baggy looking. The waistband should be snug enough to stay put, but not so tight it squishes skin and flab into the "dunlap" position ("my belly done "lapped" over my pants!). But at a size 0, you most likely don't have to worry about your flab squishing over your waistband. If someone was talking about your butt, they were probably just admiring it. Your response of blushing was appropriate and probably charming. Since this was at work or during work hours, you must have a job that allows you to wear jeans, and since you must be very petite, it makes it even more difficult for a woman to be taken seriously in a professional setting. If you are that modest about your attributes being admired, then you might want to wear something a little more professional looking (slacks or khakis) for work, and save the "cute young thing" jeans for casual wear. Just a thought.

"At 25, it may be time to update your work wordrobe a bit. Low rise flairs are great for nighttime or days off...may not be so office worthy. Your absolutly tiny, so I doubt low rise anything is offensive on you! (lucky girl!) If you would like to dress a bit more adult, I would try to find jeans with a darker rinse, straight leg and a bit more of a higher rise in the waist. Perhaps look into finding a nice straight leg trouser or a pair of kahki pants. I always love cute dresses and skirts for work too! All my jeans are baggy...they dont make pants to fit chicks with big hips and normal sized everything else :P

"bridgette. Based on what you have told us, I think you're wearing them fine. Guys are always going to comment on women, tight jeans or not! Unless what they said was embarassingly inappropriate I wouldn't worry. I am 28 and I will always wear slim fitting low rise jeans. A few things to note though, you want to avoid the sausage legs look (yes, it is possible for skinny minnies to look like this!), muffin top, the visible undies, or *gasp* the plumber's crack.

lol what is sausage legs? If your really that concerned about people talking about how your back side looks... just take it in as a complement or buy looser fit jeans or maybe consider looser casual black pants. Jeans should be a little snug with a tiny bit of room to breathe...if that's not what you want from them .. maybe consider a different style.

"I agree with Fiery. Sounds like the fit is ok, but the context is inappropriate. Coworkers talking about your butt is not terribly professional (at least 50% their fault, LOL). My mom always told me to dress for the position to which I aspire. Teenager isn't it. I work in a casual workplace, music retail, but still must maintain a professional appearance. I can wear jeans, but I teach music lessons to kids, and sell stuff to their parents, so I can't imagine wearing my low-riding Friday-night bum-huggers while doing these things. I can't dress like one of my students. I try to make sure my jeans are (usually) a darker wash, trim-fitting but not tight anywhere (butt included), and no trendy washes or holes or anything. Sounds like a true straight-leg jean might work well for you at your job. And God bless the new, Katharine Hepburn-inspired trousers I've seen for spring!

""Sausage legs" occur when the hips and/or waist of your pants fit, but the thighs are waaaaay too tight. I remedy this by buying an altogether different cut of pants, or, if the discrepancy isn't too extreme, by buying one size larger and having the waist altered by a tailor. This means I sometimes can't buy certain super-trendy things, but I've learned what looks best on me.

"Ah...sausage legs...they are the super, super tight jeans that legs are squeezed in to so much that they look like sausages in sausage casings. Not cute! And not too comfortable looking either--yikes! And..if I understand right, the guys that made the comment were not coworkers just guys that were around when she went to lunch with the coworker. I still assert that its okay to wear slim fitting low waisted jeans to work, as long as they aren't too tight, and when worn with an appropriate top (button downs, sweaters, etc).
