Advice about my clothing choices in a small city > - Beauty and Fashion >
Beautyflow.com LOVELYsquares3"Ok so I live in a small city and its very casual dress EVERYWHERE you go lol and I have a very fashionable sense of style, and I love dressing up, wearing heels, and skirts/dresses, neat combinations of items, jewelry etc... but even when i go out, to bars and nice restaurants, I look WAY overdressed than everyone else around me. My friends all tell me to dress down and wear tshirts and jeans, more casual clothes like them but I just dont like wearing that stuff, but i always stick out!! It frustrates me but i just love high fashionable clothes SO much! Should I try to fit it with casual crowd or stick out like a sore thumb? lol

"I think it's most important to be true to yourself. That being said, it can make the people around you uncomfortable to always feel too casual. Maybe they feel they have to act more formal around you because you are dressed formally. Or maybe they think you are trying to show off or gain attention. IDK, just some ideas... I think there is probably a way for you too wear trendy clothes and feel dressed up without looking like you are made up. Perhaps wearing tailored jeans and a baby doll top with a jacket instead of Levi's and a tee would suit you better but also help you too fit in with your peers. And keep the jewelry to a minimum. Save the *real* stuff for traditionally formal occasions such as weddings.

"Normally I'd say dress how you feel comfortable. But if your usual attire is making your friends uncomfortable, or that get the feeling that you are trying to show them up or that you feel you're better than they are, it may start affecting your friendships. If that's the case, you have to decide which is more important: keeping your friends and making them feel more comfortable, or dressing up.I'd first suggest you make sure you are dressing appropriately for the occasion by ANY standards. If you show up in a dress and heels at a restaurant or nightclub, then fine. But if you're showing up like that for a ball game or night of "beer and bowling", it would just look like you're showing off or seeking to be the center of attention. Then I'd suggest you keep your fun sense of style, but just tone it down a notch. Like wearing what you normally would, only swapping the skirt for a great pair of jeans, or wear the skirt if you like to show off your legs, but with a more casual top or jacket.

do what ever you feel like and that you are the most comfy with. but try to stay kind of in style and not to over done!

"I'd sa go with fashionable t-shirt & jeans, and accessorize in the way you want (heels, jewelry, jackets, etc). You can dress in a poncier way than everyone else, but realize that in this setting it's not going to be the trick to making friends, and will likely detract from your ability to make friends.

"i live in a very small town and know what you mean. my family used to be in bigger cities so my mom usually looks dressier, wears more makeup, and other stuff than other ppl. in school, my classmates wear a variety of clothes. som ppl wear t-shirts and jeans, others wear fitted graphic t-shirts with maybe an accesory and jeans, and others wear trendy hoodies, sometimes denim skirts w/ leggings, and other fashionable things. i fit in w/ the 3 category, and im like the only person who actually wears skirts and leggings to school. i am also the only one to be caught wearing possibly 2 accesories and darkish makeup (i try not to put on too much cuz i have really pale skin, already pouty and pretty lips and long eyelashes) but i try not to look like the models in my magazines (i might be able to if i wanted to lol) so i basically wear what i want to a degree, like no heels at school (although my boots have a tiny heel and i still wear them) and no eyeshadow some days, and not too much layering everything in moderation, even fashion (if u must lol)
