CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHY PEOPLE HATE ABERCROMBIE AND HOLLISTER SOO MUCH ?

"i don't think anybody hates them. but i personally feel for the parents whose kids whine and ask to buy those clothes for them, they r overpriced.

vintage_gal
"I don't like them, because they have no personality. Whoever shops there is depending on their store label to give them one. Truth is, it doesn't. Most cases are, not all, but most, is that the people who shop there, only shop there. No where else, its almost like they think shopping somewhere else is below them.

"They have their time and place. I've seen some outfits from both places that look great. However, they almost always look the same, nothing stands out. It's all an over-priced, very contrived way to look "thrown-together". It is the clothing equivalent of the "natural-look" make-up that takes an hour.

"Because they are typical preppy high school college kids ,The thing to wear they are expensive for being so plain. That about sums it up.

paramedic34
"I can't see spending way too much on a shirt that looks like it has spent most of its life at the bottom of the hamper. If I want a shirt with cracked, faded logos, i'll go raid my parent's attic for real vintage! Not a fake, overpriced knockoff!

"The sizes are too limited. I can't find anything to wear there, I'm too tall and large chested for their clothes.

Jadebug_781
yeah i think everyone hates them because they are really jus like simple **** that you can make by yourself and its like 100 dollars and stuff like that your spending your money on stupid stuff and you can juss spend it on something that you need.

everyoneknows
Abercrombie and Hollister are great and I love them. Personality of the clothes depends on how the person wears them and how they mix and match.

"I personally just don't want to pay that much for clothes... that aren't that cute (to me). I find really cute stuff at Ross for like $10... that's it for me... I don't hate them because they're "preppy" or whatever... they are just too dang expensive. it's ridiculous!

"Because it's total bull to spend $96 on a pair of paint splattered, ripped up jeans. The guys stuff at Hollister isn't bad, but the material they use for girls' shirts is so thin and cheap that it just isn't worth the money. And it's such a high school look that it just makes me sick knowing I spent so much money there. I don't mind the winter preppy look, but summer preppy means trashy.

Same reasons. I dont like the overpriced tag for something simple and that looked like it was at the bottom of a hamper. The material is cheap and falls apart easily. There is no point of buying an expensive shirt that falls apart after a few washes. The skirts are too short for my taste. The preppy look is fine on others. I dont mind it. I cannot shop there because the whole store seems like its drenched with cheap mens cologne. I get migraine headaches if I am exposed to strong cheap scents for too long.

"i personally worked at Abercrombie for 1 yr and a half in high school before i wised up. It is a horribly run work environment. They pay 5.15 here in the midwest and act like you should be thanking them for working there! I witnessed so much sexual harassment as well as many other unprofessional situations! I mean after workign there I clearly see why they get sued so often!!!! They are descrimnatory and most of the co-worker i worked around were mean and juvenile. The managers were only worse, which is hard to believe! A company gets what it pays for by paying low you get low lifes working for you! THey make all their clothes in 3rd world countries and are of poor quality. I know when kids buy it they just want the label but i assure you j crew and banana republic are of much higher quality!!! TRUST ME SAVE YOUR MONEY and shop elsewhere!!!!

"Because everyone I know sported that in high school. Because nothing they have looks professional or put together. Because you're paying up to $100 for something that is ripped, faded, dirty and paint-splattered. Because I don't need 8 shirts with some random logo, number, sport or other screened on print. Because they are made to fit middle school and high school kids. Because all of my old AE and AF stuff has turned into running clothes instead of stuff i'd wear where I cared how I looked. Because...

"Interesting thread... I find it sad that people insist on bashing on the shoppers there... tell us why you don't like the clothes or the company without getting the people involved.I shop at Hollister because I just like how their clothes fit me. Jeans.. maybe not so much, but I definitely love everything else. I don't shop at A&F, mostly because I can get the same stuff at Hollister for cheaper. Its nothing to do with having the label, the persona, or any of that BS. I've shopped at a lot of different stores, from Walmart to Macy's, and I've found that I tend to like Hollister better. Though the summer stuff can get a little short, when worn with the right top and the right shoes, one can avoid looking trashy. If you think Hollister and A&F are overpriced... try shopping at Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom. THAT'S overpriced.

"I don't really think there is much wrong with either brand, its about your personal choice and what you like to wear. I, however, prefer other brands. Budget is also another issue, I'm privileged to be able to spend money on clothes, how ever no everyone is. In some cases, its just not always good quality, and wont last as long as something else which can be purchased for a fraction of the cost.

Almond_roca
"Read my post, missheru. I am way over my high school preppy bashing stage. Its just a matter of taste and personal style. The clothes dont fit my curvy body. The style and fit tends to be juvenile and made for teens. Personally, I think anyone who is mid-20s or over should not shop there. I want to look like a 20 something with a more grown and sophisticated taste and style. That is why I dont shop there.

luvourearth
"Ok, this is why I cant stand them. I just moved to a new school. And (literally) I was the only girl I saw who wasn't wearing Hollister. Its way to main steam! Why would anybody want to be a clone of the status norm? I am fine wearing Kolels. I like being a individual. So take that Hollister!

"some people think they are too preppy, but they really arent...they just have decent clothing, loud music, and the people there are nice, but still i dont think anyone HATES them

KATY_did
"and the people there are nice, but still i dont think anyone HATES them trust me most of the people that work there are not nice. Read my previous post, i worked there i WOULD know! Most of the employees tlak about the shoppers as they shop. "She's too fat to shop here""she's too white, she needs to hit a tanning bed""She is so ugly and does NOT look like she can afford to be here" those were only a few comments i heard from some people while working. Most people working there feel they are gorgeous and superior to most and think because they work there they are god's gift. News flash you work for beans and are not the models on the posters. It just used to crack me up the egos on some of those people....... they aren't "nice", the majority aren't anyways.

"The clothes are expensive, bland, and cheap.I prefer to stock my closet with some staples from mid-range stores of good quality, along with some special pieces from high-end stores. My dresses, slacks, and blouses from Anne Taylor are perfect in terms of fit, and the quality and cut will last for years.

missheru
"I wasn't especially talking about you Almond_Roca (I would have typed your name).. you aren't the first person I've read/heard bashing on people who shop at those stores, I'm just tired of being labeled lol. katy-did, you bring up an interesting point. I've worked in both retail and food service.. You should hear some of the things that are said about people coming in to order a coffee or food:"She's looks anorexic... she'll get a salad""She definitely doesn't need that mocha""He looks like a total a-hole, he won't tip us""She'll be a bitch"Surprisingly, this is not just the grunt workers either.. I've heard managers and assistant managers talk like this. What's worse is what is said after the customer leaves, especially when the customer is rude. It's funny because we all like to think that talking behind someone's back ended with highschool..Little off-topic.. sorry lol

KATY_did
"it's true, i thought i graduated, but the truth is life is just like highschool. Life is not fair, the gossip continues, there are the popular people and the smart people, the druggies, etc. Nothing really changes UNFORTUNATLEY!

"Hi all,The "Hate" for Abercrombie on the asian side comes from a huge mismarketing move they did a few years ago when they made light of Buddha (one of their T-shirts said "Get your Buddha on the dance floor!") and a few other tacky asian innuendo T-shirts. This may seem insignificant to many, but not for the asian community in Seattle! They NOT take kindly to this and the downtown store was picketed. Other issues could be that they used to NEVER have any minorities working in their stores, let alone in their advertising. As for Hollister, not sure why anyone would hate them... Janen_33

"i agress that hollister and abercrombie is expensive, but seriously. the sales go down to $10. thats really not that bad. they have really high fashion things for girls and teens. im young, and i love their clothes to death. and kiverson- preppy is not trashy. look at lilly pulitzer and j. crew. that aint trashy lol but the point is- if u really dont like a&f or hllister, just dont go there!!!!
