60's fashion on a large body? > - Beauty and Fashion >
Beautyflow.com ddndallas"I have been asked to MC for a group of performers at my job. This will be in front of 700 people! They decided to dress in retro 60's into early 70's and got this hideous fabric to make their mini-dresses out of to wear with go-go boots. It is a print with pink and yellow daisies with little sequins in the center of the daisies. Now, I'm a large woman and a pattern in light colors on THIS body just doesnt work. I decided to make a long vest out of it since the MC has to look a bit more "evening" or stagey. OMG I look like a large test pattern or something, it is truly unflattering. Any ideas on how to make a pattern like this as slimming as possible? Or at least not quite so "enlarging"?

"Do you absolutely HAVE to wear the same pattern? I would ask if I could wear something different since you are the MC, and if so, then wear a mini dress, but a more subdued look and color. A cute black and white mini dress with go go boots would probably work better for you.

"In the spirit of the late 60's and early 70's, I think you should stage a protest - against the print. Tell them they are trying to make you conform to the status quo, which is what the movement of the times was against. Instead, go as a "beatnik" in black pants, black turtleneck, maybe throw on some cool, hip shades to keep those strong stage lights out of your eyes. Instead of clapping, raise your hands and snap your fingers, say "far out", "groovy", and "cool, man". If you simply must wear the print somehow, take a pair of old jeans, cut the bottom off, and sew on the print fabric so it flares out into bellbottoms, make a matching belt and/or scarf for your head. Then get down, get funky, and party on! (Oh wait, "party on" is from the 80's or 90's isn't' it?) Big is beautiful!

"Ok, if you must wear this print and go go boots - and you are having your dress made - consider a mod style color blocked dress with the pattern running down the front and solid black panels on the side. The optical illusion can be very slimming. Choose a sleeveless shift style or if you aren't comfortable with sleeveless maybe a slightly flared cap sleeve or something. Or wear a solid colored shift and have a scarf and cute mod style cap made out of the fabric. But I agree with catwoman708 - PROTEST!

"Ooh, I like This Years Girl's idea of the solid panels (of the darkest color in the print) on the side. Plain short sleeves, or 3/4 sleeves were more the fashion at the time, cap sleeves were more the late 70's look.
