"Very Thick, chemically straightened hair. I don't know how to style it!" > - Beauty and Fashion >
Beautyflow.com Angel17wings"Ok. Here's the story. Once upon a time I had very thick, curly hair, which was a bit coarse. I had tight curls and I had four times the hair of normal people. It was the kind of hair that was had pretty curls, yet stood out at a volume of about 4 inches from my head. I went to get it chemically straightened, twice, (these gentle relaxers) and practically NOTHING happened to my hair except that a little bit of the curl went away and a little bit of the volume went away. I was so sad. Now i'm stuck with very wavy, thick hair that at least isn't as huge as it used to be and I am happier. The problem is... although its a bit more presentable, my hair does not hold together when it dries, mousse doesn't work at keeping it together, and some particularily coarse strands cause frizz and do not like to conform with the rest of my hair. So it's like a thick, wavy lump. All I wanted was nice thin hair with a little bit of curl, and now I have to work hard for curls OR straight hair. Eachtaking about an hour or more to achieve. Does anybody, please! have some advice or Very good products that can keep hair soft, shiny, and HOLD together? I believe that's the only way I'll ever be able to wear my hair down...

"Hello Angel17wings, Chances are your salon you have been getting it chemically treated at do not know how to work with hair like yours. I had once, curly hair like yours which I have had now chemically relaxed. I would strongly recommend (even though you might be white) go to a black salon. They are used to dealing with thick, course hair. Tell them what you want done with your hair and I guarantee if they're a good salon they will do it right! And there is a bright future... believe me I'm happier about my hair than ever!

"1 question 2 suggestions Q: Are you African American?--if so I can help I have thick, curly, natural hair (African American). Since my hair has grown out and I am a professional female I have had to find ways to make myself look presentable without sacrificing my natural tresses. (1) I found a great hairstylist an a very unlikely place. AVEDA Spa and Salons. A white girl named Emily washed, conditioned, and flat ironed my hair. I am not sure what products she uses but my hair lays down and stays that way. I even got caught in the rain and I was able to maintain the straight look fro about 2 weeks (towards the end in up doos). (2) Corliss Flat Irons- yeah sounds cheesy because they sell these things in the mall but it straightens my hair in about (30 min) makes it shiny(without chemicals) and keeps it that way for about 3 days and then I have to touch it up. It is a little pricey, $80 for the cheapest but I love it. My friends use it and I have a friend whos daughter comes over and uses it and she is about 12 (safe for children). Hope this helps

"Nope. Funny thing is I'm mexican. But some of my ancestors were african and japanese, you'd think i'd have better hair than this. Thanks. I'll probably just go to a black salon, I should have done it from the beginning. That flat iron sounds really good. Mine was working pretty well, but I'm just afraid of turning it up high in case of burning my hair, which is probably why it took a couple hours...

"Hello, Glad to help! My hair took 8 hours to become poker-straight and some got fried off. But after I went to the black salon, no hair was fried and I am now able to wear it curly (with no frizz ext.) and I blow dry and iron it straight once in a while which takes only about 1 to 1 1/2 hours now compared to the never ending 2 to 2 1/2 hours. I get compliments on my hair all the time now.More Help:Conditioner And Shampoo I Use: Matrix: Sleek.Look (Comes in orange bottle underneath of sleek.look it says "smoothing system" I also use there styling cream)Blow-Dryer: Conair Infiniti (Hair designer) It has like three things on it with like a built in comb, hard to explain sorryIron: Well I haven't flat ironed my hair in a while seeing as I go to the salon now-a-days but they use like a curling iron that sits in the metal thing and place it over the hair and pull it in a downward motion. If you ever need future help my e-mail is Gal889@homtail.comThanks!
