Beautyflow.com Green Eyed Monster"OK, I line with a pencil and fill in with color right from the tube. Looks great for a bit then gets a line of "build up" for lack of a better description along the inner edge. What am I doing wrong? Is it the product or my application? Help! (and thanks )

"I think frequent use of lipstick causes a waxy buildup on your lips, especially at that point were the moisture from your mouth meets the product. You might need to exfoliate your lips once or twice a week if you wear lipstick every day. You can do it simply by rubbing a little lotion or cream type cleanser (or regular old fashioned cold cream) and gently rub with a warm damp washcloth. I use a product by Beauti Control (a non-retail brand) called "Lip and Line peel" for $25.00. A little goes a long way and it lasts a long time. It is basically a "mask" you put on and around the outside line of your lips, let it dry a few minutes, then either rub or wash off. It comes with lip balm in the lid of the jar to follow up with. It exfoliates the dead/dry skin, removes the waxy lipstick build up, and even helps the appearance of those fine lines around the lips that can cause "feathering".I don't care for regular lipstick that feels sticky or gooey, so I use Revlon Colorstay lip tint. Unless I'm eating a lot of messy foods, it lasts for hours or most of the day on me, especially if I use a long wearing lip liner. You might also try using a color close to your natural lip color and not apply into the "moisture line" on the inside of your lips, but just on the part that shows when your lips are closed.

Lip exfoliants are great. I use one from smashbox ... it's very addictive because after your lips feel really lovely and soft.

"I use a lip exfoliator, too. Mine is a set from Mary Kay. I would also stay away from any lip-stick that says "long-wearing." Those are too waxy and drying. They sometimes come with a gloss to help with the dryness. I love Revlon lipsticks, especially their Moondrops line. The colors are true, don't change to pink or orange tones, and are so smooth.

"when you use the lip liner, fill in your lips, don't just line, it helps keep the actual lipstick on your lips. also, don't apply the tube directly on your lips, use a lip brush.

"when i got a Mac makeover, the guy put a small bit of foundation on my lips 1st, then lined it with a neutral color, put on a shade of lipstick, then a lipgloss on top.....it lasted for hours and hours....i think the foundation had alot to do with it.....i always do these steps, and my lipstick stays on......

"My lipstick and liner always look flawless, but it took many bad experiences for me to learn how to do it right. Here's how I do it:First, when I wash my face and moisturize, I put a bit of moisturizer on my lips (face cream's fine for me, but you may want to use Vaseline - your choice). With the moisturizer on my lips, I exfoliate with a damp washcloth (great bargain: cheap towels, because they are not smooth). Then I apply my foundation all over, including my lips. I don't use a sponge anymore because it basically drains your foundation. I do the rest of my makeup and right before I'm about to do my lips, I apply pressed powder to my whole mouth. Kinda ugly looking, but we'll fix that. I then use my powder brush to brush off the excess....Then I use a sharpened lipliner (not too sharp though or else you get a really thin crooked line, so I flatten out the tip by pressing the tip against my finger for a second. I line my lips, then fill them in about 3/4 inwards, so almost my whole lip is colored. Then I apply lipstick in a thin coat, I blot on a napkin, and I add one more thin coat. For extra longevity, use the lipliner again on top of the thin layers of lipstick.Sounds like what you're doing wrong is lining the entire mouth as a circle, all the way around...No need to do that, dear. All you really need to line is the top all the way into the crease, and the bottom as well. Doesn't look very natural to line all the way around. As a matter of fact, I always clean up that are right after I do my makeup, because you want your lips to look like two separate entities, not one.Good luck - remember that learning how to do your makeup is half the fun... :-)
