"Has anyone had laser hair removal, and were you happy with the results?" > - Beauty and Fashion >
Beautyflow.com catwoman708"My daughter will soon be turning 20, and she's interested in laser hair removal. She is fair skinned, green eyes, brown hair, but has very dark, thick eyebrows and a mustache that is thick for a woman, but not as thick as a man's. She is very self conscious about it, so she shaves it every day. She did not like bleaching, and waxing is too painful and the hair has to grow out some. She also has very thick, dark body hair on her legs, arms, underarms, and even around her belly, tops of her toes, and knuckles. A trip to the beach or pool becomes quite an ordeal in hair removal, as shaving causes lots of bumps and ingrown hairs. She usually doesn't shave her legs unless she has to, she just wears long pants all the time.I thought I'd pay to have laser hair removal on her face/upper lip for her upcoming birthday. She has shown an interest, but only if it doesn't hurt. I don't know anyone who's had this and would like some input, like: 1. Does it hurt, sting, burn, or feel uncomfortable?2. How many treatments does it take, & how often, for hair to stop growing back?3. Does it leave marks or redness and for how long?4. How expensive is it, and do they charge by the hour?5. Is it safe, and what kind of things can go wrong?6. How do we know the facility is a good one?7. What questions should we ask the staff?

"im 14 years old and i have had the lazer hair removal since i was 12.i highly recomend it! especially for your situation. i've had my under arms, stomach, and upper lip done. Since im a teen new hair growth does come so i go for regular treatments about every 6 weeks. After you have it done you are pretty much hair free for 6 weeks which is usually when new growth starts coming in. My mother has had practically everything done and says its the best thing she has ever done. It is expensive but SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it. The lazer does hurt, especially the first treatment but you get used to it and its not that bad. I would compare it to having someone snap a rubberband on your skin. I sugest putting on a numbing cream before the treatment. I use emla and it makes it where i hardly feel it. You are usually a little soar at the area for about 20 minutes after treatment but it goes away. When i had my stomach done i had a buch of little red bumps all over the zap site but they were not painful and went away in 2 days. The upperlip is quite painful but since its such a small area it only takes a few zaps and is over with in less than 5 minutes. Prices vary from clinic to clinic but the results that you get from it are priceless. Im getting my legs done next. My mother shaves at most about twice a year. I worked wonders for us and you should seriously consider it. You should ask any questions that you may hve to the staff they will have the answers.

"i think the only thing that could potentially be a problem is the hair has to be dark enough for the laser to "zap" it--so she would have to let it grow out a bit. The hair does grow back BUT considerably less and finer and as you do more over time it gets less and less.It does hurt but the numbing cream does work (the emla--definitely get a prescription first and put it on an hour before)Make sure you go to a good clinic that has a powerful laser and there are several kinds, so do your homework. I don't know which state you are in, but most are physician owned and then a PA or RN do the lasers.

sounds like a great candidate! laser hair removal has best results with people with light skin and dark hair!

I looked into this and was told I WASNT a good candidate due to my fair skin. I would go for a consultation. I think this would be a great gift!

nope whoever told you that was worng. i know a lady that does it and the lighter the skin the less treatments one must get due to the fact the laser works more effectively on paler skin.

"It works most effectively when there is a color difference ... darker hair on pale skin. But for light hair on light skin, it will not work so well ... and I assume that is what fieryred has.

"I am in my 30's and had 4 treatments on my bikini and underarms. Each session cost me $150. I have pale skin and brown hair. 1. Does it hurt, sting, burn, or feel uncomfortable? Yes, it stung and was uncomfortable. I had to ask my aesthetician (or whatever you call the person running the machine at the dermatologist's office) to just do 2 zaps and then pause. It helped if I took 2 advil before the appointment but was still painful. They tell you it's like a rubberband snapping your skin. Well, okay, that doesn't hurt on your hand or arm, but it hurts alot on sensitive areas!2. How many treatments does it take, & how often, for hair to stop growing back?I went for 4 treatments over a 5 months period. Then I stopped going for 4 months. I feel like the benefits did not last. The hair grew back. I know people say you have to keep going for it to last. Well okay, but how much longer can I afford to spend $150 on LHR? And at what point do I throw in the towel and admit this process does not work for as a permanent solution for me? 3. Does it leave marks or redness and for how long? No, I had no marks or redness; however, my friend who is doing her legs got splotches on one leg that lasted for a week.4. How expensive is it, and do they charge by the hour?I went to a dermatologist's office for my treatments and it was $75 for the pair of underarms and $75 for the front sides of the bikini area (more if I wanted the underneath done.) I don't know what they charge at places that only do LHR. You can usually buy packages, such as Buy 3 treatments, get 1 free.5. Is it safe, and what kind of things can go wrong?I do know the laser could be turned up too high and burn you. You should research that online.6. How do we know the facility is a good one? That's why I went to my dermatologist's office - it's an established clinic and I trust that the staff are well-trained and that the equipment is first rate. The clientele are typically wealthy older women who I perceive to be discerning about their skin care. Again, research this online. There are the obvious things, such as cleanliness of the facility and asking whether the person running the machine is trained to use it.7. What questions should we ask the staff?Ask them whether they will do eyebrows; my place won't do eyebrows yet but I've never asked why since I didn't need those done.Good luck,picket_fence
