"I have really fine and thin hair. I keep it straight and mid-length with long layers. How do I maintain volume through out the day? I also hate to wash it every other day because it dries out my hair, yet, my roots start to get greasy and flat if I don't? Currently, I use Matrix's texture spray before I blow dry and finish styling with Aveda shine serum for the ends. What can I do to keep my hair from going flat without teasing it? Hair spray makes my hair stiff and unnatural.

"I also have fine hair and the best thing I have found to give it a little bit of body is Bed Head Curl Enhancer. I know it sounds funny, especially because my hair is naturally straight, but it is a really light gel that doesn't weight my hair down or get greasy and gross....just a suggestion.

"Paul Mitchell Spray Wax in medium hold. Way better than gel, mousse, or hairspray. I have short thin fine hair. People comment on my wavy hair. Ummm it is poker straight, my dear. In fact whatever way I bend it, it stays. A perpetual wind tousled look. This stuff will hold most styles well. Spritz at your roots, scrunch and lift for volume for longer hair.

"I have long, very fine, very thin hair that tends to be oily, and a morning schedule that simply does not allow more than 5 minutes of styling time. I've tried a number of products, but they usually require a lot of time and effort. The easiest and cheapest fix is castille soap. Look for a castille soap with retained hemp, coconut or olive oil (two readily available brands are Dr. Bronner's and Dr. Wood's). Wash your hair only four times a week: every other day with castille soap, the seventh day with regular shampoo to prevent too much oil buildup. Instead of making my hair flatter, the extra oil in the castille soap actually makes my hair appear thicker, adds body and makes it more manageable.

"I know what your talking about I had the same problem. What you need to do is get rid of the products you are currently using. For hair like yours you need to use, NIOXIN. I have been using it and I swear by it. NIOXIN Cleanser, and SCALP THERAPY. ( shampoo and Conditioner) What it does is it gets rid of all the free radicals in your hair and actually works at the scalp in order to create thicker strands. Trust me. I have tried everything and this is what works the best.

Where do you buy these products that you've suggested? Thanks for replying.

"I too have very thin, fine, straight hair. I use Pantene pro-v shampoo and conditioner. I use either the sheer volume or full and thick formulas. I can wash every day and the conditioner is light enough that it doesn't weigh my hair down, but strong enough to keep it healthy and shiny. The shorter I wear it the better it looks. I keep short layers in it too. Right now it's about chin length, but I can wear it longer. I use Joico, high rise hair and hold up my roots when I blow dry. If I do this my hair is really big when I leave the house, but after five minutes it isn't, but it keeps enough volume for the rest of the day.

crazy for face wash
you should try rat tailing you take small sections of hair and hold them away from your head then comb toward your scalp but just a little then smooth out the top a little try that hope it helps

"for fine thin hair:the castille soap sugestion was good. regular shampoos usually contain lauryth sulfates. these irritate the scalp causing it to produce more oil than it would naturally. Use a shampoo without this ingredient. I like giovanni organics products (www.giovannicosmetics.com). This way the hair near the root won't be so weighed down. Castille soaps are made of saponified olive oil. A great thing for thin hair can be to take the tiniest amount of olive oil (yes, i know it seems wierd to be getting your hair products from the kitchen) rub it into your palms and then rub it into the shaft of the hair but only at the end.run a lttle mouse through your hair (any brand will do, the cheap stuff is fine) and blow dry with your head upside down. If you have to leave the house with damp hair the old sunglasses ead band works well to add volume at the front once you take them off and part your hair you'll be all set. I hope this helps. To amm:Try to only shampoo your scalp and wash your hair a little less frequently. Grapeseed oil (which you can grabat the grocery store in the olive oil section if you don't already have) works nicely. It's less greasy so you can use a little more of it butbe extremly sparing use just enough that your hand is shiny. Comb your hair through while the conditioner is in and again as soon as you step out of the shower. Now is when the grapeseed oil goes on. If you really want straight hair round brsh it while blow drying and then quickly run over the hair with a flat iron once it's dry. On thick hair (which yours sounds like) this is much quicker.Good luck to everyone! and Happy Hair days!

"I have very thin fine hair. Any ideas on hairstyles that will give me volume? I'm trying to keep my length about an inch from my shoulders - I don't mind going a little shorter, but not too much shorter. Thanks in advance for your help!..

"Try Arbonne's Self-Adjusting Shampoo and conditioner. They are formulated with nanosphere technology that adjusts to every single hair type individually. I have very fine, straight, shoulder-length hair. A friend of mine suggested trying these products for 2 weeks to see if I like them. Well, after 3 days I couldn't get a comb through my hair! You hair really feels and looks thicker and stronger and I only shampoo every other day, which also helps it to grow faster. Good luck!

"I have thin stringy hair myself that looks thick when its all one length, but I have to wash it everyday due to oily skin with V05 shampoo and conditioner. My problems are with split ends and having to relive styles from high school because I hate it being in my face, but would love to find someway to leave it down without it getting in my face. I don't want to cut it cause I love the length I have and so does my fiancé (to the waist). What can I do with my limited budget?

"I also have really fine hair. Even though you think you might need to wash your hair everyday for volume don't! Fine hair is usually more fragile and it can't take the beating! My sister is a stylist and she introduced me to the Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder. I first started using it on the days that I didn't wash my hair since it hid the greasies, but than I started to use it also on the days that I washed my hair because it added so much volume and I found that it prevented my hair from falling flat. There are a few different colors so you can find one that works for you...the only downside is you have to find a Bumble and Bumble Salon to get it, but I am sure there are other similar products out there I just happen to love this one.
