""Seams" like a Confused Denim Industry!!!" > - Beauty and Fashion >
Beautyflow.com City-Chíc" Help me understand this... companies advertise jeans/pants using models usually 5'9 and taller, yet the actual product is made for someone much shorter! The average inseam (length) is 31.5"- made for someone about 5'6. I'm 5'10 and it seems like the only companies halfway catering to taller women is Levi's, Gap & Old Navy because they make special sizes. These are all great chains but I've reached my mid-20's and i now like jeans that are darker, more polished and tailored with neat stitching as opposed to the funky "teen-ish" styles in these companies. Maybe I'm being petty but it just seems like designers are leaving out the tall girls!! Maybe some of u can help.. if ur tall & slim and have had some succes in shopping for fashionable pants & jeans please let me know where 2 go!! I'm so annoyed!!!

"You're annoyed? There aren't a ton of options for us short curvy girls either... Everyone just assumes we can take pants up but it's quite difficult to find perfectly straight or wide-legged pants that don't come in slightly at the knee! You try taking 4-6 inches off a pair of jeans, the knees always end up half way down my calf and make me look oddly proportioned! I have a male friend who is in a similar situation to you though. He has a 32" waist and a 38" inseam. The only stores he can find that carry that inseam are generally Big & Tall stores... but he's not big at all, absolutely puny! I wish we could all just input our measurements and style preferences into a computer and we'd get perfectly fitting jeans made just for us!

"I feel your...cold ankles! I've learned that many of the companies that sell more-expensive jeans often market a longer inseam as a standard length. I don't enjoy paying retail, however, so I stick to stores like T J Maxx, etc. There also don't seem to be many styles of jeans in mall stores that either look more mature & polished, OR that fit a slightly more mature figure (not nineteen!). I've enjoyed success on websites like BlueFly and Revolve Clothing. Some long styles I've found are from Replay, Blue Cult, and True Religion. I think Hudson makes one jean (called the Supermodel, LOL) with a 36". My poor cousin was up the creek looking for pants during his teens and 20s as well--he wore a 28" (waist)-38"!

I have a problem with too-short jeans too! Very annoying. I normally wear Levi's in a size 9L. But many of them aren't all that long after a few washes. I finally wrote to Levi's and told them about it. I commented about the fading that is so unattractive too. Maybe if we all write they'll get the hint!!!

"i've had this same problem as well. for me the only jeans i can find that i like and that fit me are citizens of humanity. i'm 5'8 and these are actually quite a bit too long for me off the rack so you should be able to pull off 5'10 with a short heel without a problem. they're pricy, but i love the look so i can rationalize it. i think a lot of the designer jeans come longer so you might want to hit the tbd department at nordstrom and try a couple on to see what you like. also if you're looking for a more affordable option american eagle outfitters sells some of their styles in size long, you might want to check out their website. good luck!

"im on the other end of the spectrum. Im 5'2 and everything is wayyyy too long. It sucks getting jeans hemmed too :P. While we're talking about pants length, I have to complain about knee length skirts. Knee length skirts look great on my body type, only I cant find ANY. Skirts that are supposedly 'knee length' are only so for girls who are 5'7 or 5'8, but on me, they come down about 4-5 inches past my knee making me look even shorter than usual, thus I cant wear them. The problem with the fashion industry is that it likes to cater to different curves and different sizes, but not height.

yeah it must really be rough to be that tall... LOL! it completely sucks for me i'm 5'1 and a size 2. i really need petite clothes but most places i find petite clothes they look too grandma-ish! i am a young 20s professional and don't want to dress like i get my clothes at the same store as my mimi. i get so tired of taking clothes in to get taken in taken up etc! anyone know anywhere to get young looking petite clothes?

"I'm with the other posters on the wee end of the spectrum. Although, I would have to say, I don't think the fashion industry caters to different curves very well. If you're really curvy or top heavy: you're screwed. Maybe I should just learn to sew...Oh, and katy: I can only ever find decent petite things shopping online. Stores tend to have a much better variety of sizes online. I don't have any specific recommendations though...

well thanks curiouser i will have to keep that in mind!!!!!!!!

"Oh my god, yes. I'm 5'9 and I have a 35 inch inseam and the only jeans that I'll wear are from Charlotte Russe. I used to wear American Eagle's jeans, but their bootcut is more like a flare and they're apparently made for women with absolutely no hips because I have to wear a 6 instead of a 4, but the jeans are still too big in the waist (go figure).
